WWJD

May 3, 2007

What would Jesus do? Some years ago someone was probably having a hard time making a decision and they asked themselves, “What would Jesus do?” That question caught on big time. It went on T-shirts, bumper stickers and pencils. If people could write on something they inscribed it with the letters WWJD. I’ll venture to say that, ironically, probably about ninety percent of the people that had those letters inscribed on something never bothered to ask themselves that question, and if they did ask it, they never bothered to answer it. Why? When faced with that commercialized question, most don’t have a very articulate answer. Wouldn’t it be fantastic if you could actually know what Jesus would do if He were walking in the flesh on the earth today? Well, I believe we can answer “WWJD”.

One of the scriptures that many people use to encourage others during tough times is 1 Corinthians 2:9 which says, “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” (KJV) Unfortunately, there is a period after the word “him”. Verse 10 starts with the word “But”. It is connected to and should be read with verse 9 which says, “But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.” (KJV) In verse 11 we read that no man can know what is in another man, except that man himself, but then it says that concerning the things of God, no man can know those, but only the Spirit of God can know. If you keep reading, you will find out that we do not have the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God. That is talking about the Holy Spirit. The Bible says that the Holy Ghost teaches (tells) us. So we can “know” what the Lord would do on this earth today. People say, “I could never do that, that would be trying to be like Jesus, and we should not do that.” Why not? Ephesians 5:1 says, “Be ye therefore followers of God as dear children” (KJV) That word “followers” means imitator. We are supposed to be like God. We are supposed to be like Jesus.

My wife and I have a 13 year old and a 7 year old. When the older one does something, whether right or wrong, the younger one will sooner or later do it, too. Look at 1Cor. 2:16. “For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.” (KJV) Read Psalm 25:14. “The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him; and he will show them his covenant.” (KJV) The Bible tells us that the beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord. That word “fear” means respect. So if I fear, or respect the Lord, Psalm 25:14 tells me that his secret is with me, and he shows me his covenant. His covenant is an “oath” or promise that God made to Abraham, and then He (God) performed that oath through the death and resurrection of Jesus. We must realize that God rested after making the world and everything in it, and Jesus sat down at His right hand when he arrived at the throne. Now we just need to agree with the Word and speak it. Knowing it is already done gives us confidence. Confidence brings victory. (Hebrews 10:35) Now, since we see that we can know the answer to WWJD, all we have to do is line ourselves up with the Word and walk accordingly.

I will close with Psalm 37:23 which says, “The steps of a (good) man are directed and established by the Lord when He delights in his way (and He busies Himself with his every step).” (Amplified Version) Notice the punctuation in that verse. Where the letter “h” is capitalized it is talking about Jesus and when it is a small “h” it is referring to mankind. Do not get upset with me and get offended if I feed my spirit by reading it like this: “The steps of Johnny (who is good) are directed and established by the Lord Jesus when Jesus delights in what Johnny does and Jesus gets involved with whatever Johnny does.” That causes me to get up and shout, “Glory be to God, He is good to me!”

Stay in the Word. Then when someone happens to say, “WWJD”, you will be ready to give them the Answer, which is Jesus, and it will be the Word that is timely. Stay blessed.
