In the 5th Chapter of the Gospel of Mark, we find the story of the twelve-year-old daughter of Jairus being raised from the dead. Verse 43 really jumped out at me as I meditated on this story. Mark 5:43 says “And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.” (KJV)
Jesus had ordered them to feed her because spirits do not eat, so when Peter, James, John and her family saw her eat, it would assure them that she was alive, and they were not seeing an illusion. But, why would Jesus tell them, “that no man should know it”? That word “know”, in the Greek language means to understand, to decide, to resolve. The dictionary definition of “resolve” means to determine, to separate into constituent parts, to analyze, or to explain.
There are other places in scripture where Jesus would tell the disciples not to tell any man about a miracle that had been done. That word “tell” means the same as the word “know”. Tell no man. No man should know. That means you shouldn’t try to explain a miracle. You will find yourself in a useless argument or a conversation that leads nowhere, and you will not magnify our Lord Jesus in any way, shape or form.
If anyone should ever ask, “Can you explain what happens when you lay hands on people? How do they get healed?” Just give them the scripture in Mark 16:18 that says, “...they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover”. (KJV)
God’s word is to be trusted and followed with complete confidence. When we do that, we shall see miracles daily and thanksgivings will be given to God. We do His will and see great blessings in our life as a by-product of obedience. See Hebrews 10:35.
Stay blessed!!
