Planting the Right Kind of Seed

May 30, 2006

Planting the Right Kind of Seed May 30, 2006 What kind of harvest are you looking for in your life? We all know that in order to have a harvest we have to first plant seed. The Bible says in Gen.8:22, “While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.” (KJV) Notice the word, “seedtime”. There is nothing separating the seed and the time. In the natural it takes time for a seed to produce a plant and then the fruit, which is the harvest. Look at Gen. 26:1-12. Here we see the story of Isaac being in a land of famine (lack). Look at verse 12. “Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold and the Lord blessed him.” (KJV) Looks to me as if in the things of God you do not necessarily have to wait a long time for your “fruit” so you can pull in the harvest.

Again, I ask, “What kind of harvest are you looking for in your life?” You cannot plant apple seeds and expect a lemon tree to sprout. You cannot be expecting money to come in abundance into your life and not be willing to give money into furthering the Gospel. Luke 6:38 says “Give, and it shall be given unto you: good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” (KJV) I don’t think it would change the meaning if we read it like this. “Give it, and it shall be given back to you...” The earth can only yield the type of plant that corresponds with the seed you place in the ground. Keep in mind that this principle also pertains to the words we speak. The Bible says in Mark 4 that the “seed” is the Word. All words are seeds, good or bad. We decide what we plant with our mouth. All hearts of men are soil, even our own, and we must be careful what seeds are planted there.

I began this study following a conversation I had with my wife. She was meditating on planting seed and she told me that what came to her mind was a time a few years ago when she gave her wedding band in the local church offering. She began to realize how nice her jewelry has been since then. She gave her wedding band, a gold band, for the furtherance of the Gospel. When that particular offering was picked up, we didn’t have any money. She gave what she had and what was very meaningful to her, and now she is wearing something much nicer. You cannot out-give God.

I will ask again, “What kind of harvest do you want in your life?” Are you believing for a loved one to accept salvation. Go out and minister to someone about God’s love. Present the Gospel to them, and I guarantee you that God Jehovah will put someone in your loved one’s path with boldness to declare to them the Goodness of Our Lord. Something I have done in the past and have seen it work is to give money to co-workers when they are going on vacation. The Friday before my co-worker went on vacation I would give them $10 or $20. I would say, “Here, this is for a hamburger on the road, or a cab driver at the airport.” And I would tell them not to use it for alcohol or drugs, or illicit things, because I prayed over money and that money was a blessing. Now, the past two vacations have been awesome for my family. One was an 8-day trip to New Mexico and Arizona and the other one was a 3-day trip within the state. On both trips we had more than enough. One humorous side-note: I asked my 6-year old daughter what she liked most about the trip the last time. She smiled and said, “Room service, Dad!” Is she a lady or what? We all laughed. Stay blessed!
